Reaching out

I sent an email to everyone who was in possession of a wig and asked them to

1) please have their photo taken wearing the wig while doing an everyday activity and email it to me

OR

2) return the wig to me so that I can try an enlist others in the fun.

I received these two photos:

 

This is what I'm looking for.  Action shots of people doing every day ordinary activities wearing a knitted wig.  And, people, remember it's a wig not a hat.

Not really what I was looking for . . .

And, in lieu of a real person wearing a wig, I was able to snap these very nice photos of a stuffed gator wearing a wig.  Not really what I wanted but a photo of a wig is a photo of a wig.  I'll accept it.

One willing volunteer

I was able to get one person to model a wig for me.  And this is the only photo I have proving it.

Alas . . .

Memorial Day Weekend has come and gone.  It was a great weekend of fun and friendship.

It was not, however, a great weekend for wig photos.  Trying to get people to cooperate was like trying to herd cats.

People did wear funny things on their heads but not one of the wigs.

Still knitting

My goal is to get as many wigs as I can knitted by Memorial Day Weekend.  That is the weekend I am going away and hope to have some good, clean, healthy silliness.

Cast on, knit two, purl two, cast on more, decrease, bind off, start another.

I have the pattern memorized.  People are amused as they watch me continually knitting the same pattern over and over again.  They are delighted with the color combinations.  They are looking forward to seeing some silly photos.

I can't wait either.

Arrgghhh, matey

One of the intended recipients of a knitted wig is a fan of pirates.  I added a knitted eye patch just for her.

Accepted

Proposal written.  Proposal accepted.

I cannot divulge the details of the proposal but they will be revealed in the course of the postings on this blog.

And, while I'm at it

Did I mention that I'm a fine arts major at a local university?  I am.  

I have also been known to knit in class during lectures.  It dawned on me one day that maybe I could turn this into some kind of independent study project and get credit.  Wouldn't that be cool?

I made an appointment and met with my advisor.  I showed him what I was working on and what my ideas were around the project.  He had a few suggestions to make the project more substantial and more like art rather than just like a craft.  He told me to write him a proposal.

One is never enough

Since I made mistakes with the first wig.  I had to knit the pattern again to get it right.  And, then another and another and so on and so forth.

Hmmm . . . what to do with all these wigs?

I had a weekend coming up where I was going to be away with a group of women and girls.  A perfect opportunity, I thought.  I could hand out the wigs and take photos of everyone wearing their wigs going about their business.  This could be fun.

I'm a little rusty . . .

In my haste to knit my first wig, I didn't quite follow the directions. It's been awhile since I followed a knitting pattern and somewhere I got confused when adding the place markers and starting the decreases. I wasn't paying attention. Mistakes were made.

In order to cover up my mistakes, I added some flair in the form of braids.
